‘Just Eat It’ featured at The Bellingham Human Rights Film Festival

The Bellingham Human Rights Film Festival is a seventeen-years strong event based on engaging the community in a variety of human rights issues worldwide. The goal is “to encourage a wide sharing of knowledge – among friends and family, students and teachers, and the public at large – to invite you to support these endeavors by attending, engaging in essential needed dialog, and helping out financially,” according to the event website.

This year, in addition to Just Eat It, a film regarding food waste, we are especially interested in another film, Looking for Functional Zero, which hones in on the problem of homelessness in our Bellingham community and the United States. The film explores the causes of homelessness, perceptions from those who are homeless, and what makes those in our community more vulnerable to homelessness. View the trailer here.

Looking for Functional Zero is showing Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00pm at Bellingham High School and again at 1:15 PM on Saturday, February 25th at the Fairhaven College Auditorium.

You may be startled to know that about 40% of the food we produce goes to waste. Just Eat It explores this disturbing fact.

It documents an experiment by a couple in British Columbia, and without giving it away, will open your eyes to what happens with the food that we don’t eat. See the trailer here.

You can see Just Eat It at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 23rd at Bellingham Public Library.

These are just a couple of the twenty-one films showing this year. All films are free, as is parking at each of the venues. Also, snacks will be provided at the shows. If you head to the films on Saturday, February 25th, you will find catered food from Crave Catering in the afternoon and later on a potluck as well as live music in the evening!
